Father & Son: A Ride from Cebu to Bohol
Sometimes the best rides aren't about the destination. They're about who you're riding with.
The Story
My son Lawrence used to love cycling when he was younger. But when it became his daily commute to school, the magic kind of faded. This school year, he completely stopped and switched to Angkas. Can't blame him – air-con versus sweat? Easy choice.
But I wanted to change that. I wanted him to remember why he fell in love with cycling in the first place.
The Ride
We took a ferry from Cebu to Tagbilaran, then set off on a chill ride all the way to Panglao. No school routes. No schedules. Just a father-son adventure.
The Bohol roads were peaceful – quiet stretches, stars appearing above us, the occasional dog barking in the distance. Somewhere along the way, Lawrence pulled up beside me and we started chatting while riding. I couldn't help but grin.
By the time we reached Alona Beach, something had changed. The exhaustion wasn't there – just peace. We weren't racing anyone. We were just... enjoying it.
The Magic Returns
Watching my son smile – a real smile – as we rode side by side into Panglao was worth every kilometer. From Angkas back to the bike. From routine back to adventure.
The ride ended at Alona Beach – palm trees, white sand, and the satisfaction of a journey completed together.
Sometimes you don't need fancy destinations or epic routes. You just need the right person to ride with.
